French Toast

French Toast
Having a charcuterie & cheese platter with baguette for an afternoon camping snack ?  Have any left over baguette that you don’t want to waste?  How about using it to make French toast for breakfast! You may want to bring an extra baguette just for this purpose!  Using a baguette means you won’t have to worry about squashing the loaf of bread that you crammed into your car truck amongst all your camping gear and you won’t have to store it in an air proof container or bag as a slightly dried our baguette is better because it won’t soak up too much of the egg mixture and become soggy.  Another plus is that it can become a utensil free meal for little ones.  Once the baguette rounds have cooled enough to be able to hold them, your munchkin can grab one and dunk straight into the maple syrup.  Yup, there will be sticky fingers, so have a wet facecloth or wipes on hand.

To prepare ahead of time, you can buy your French Toast baguette a day or two before you leave for your camping trip and leave it to dry on your counter.  The night before you leave, cut it up and toss the rounds in a Ziploc bag or reusable container.  The egg mixture can be prepared at home and stored in a mason jar or any other container that has a good seal on it.   The more you can prepare at home, the more time you can spend having fun at the campground!
